Fielder & Fielder Imports, Inc. is a small post and beam store
nestled in the rolling hills of Chilmark at The Captain R. Flanders
House. While we may be small, we have a large variety in our inventory.
Our main categories include:

Turkish Porcelain - Beautiful vibrantly colored
platters, plates, bowls, vases, and wall tiles, and tile panels
of various sizes and of different motifs are hand painted in the
town of Kutahya. The FDA has approved the lead content as meeting
their guidelines for use with food.
Grain Sacks and Rugs � The carpets (piled rugs),
Kilim (flat weave), and Cicim/Jijim (embroidered flat weave) are
all Turkish or Turkic village rugs. |
They
are hand woven of natural fibers (cotton or wool) that is
dyed mostly naturally. The Grain Sacks are embroidered flat
weave and are 30-50 years old. They can be opened up and used
as wall hangings or small area rugs, or filled with foam rubber
and used on a bench or put on the floor as floor pillows.
Jewelry � Most of our jewelry is Ethnic Turkmen.
Commonly they are made of beads of jade, agate, lapis coral,
turquoise, and silver. We have assorted silver jewelry made
in the small town of Beypazari in central Anatolia.
Scarves and Shawls � We have a wonderful
collection of luxurious Cashmere, Pashmina, Burnt Velvet,
and silk scarves and shawls imported from the Grand Bazaar
in Istanbul.
Antiques � We carry a tasteful assortment
of American antiques. Included are blanket boxes, carpenter�s
boxes, shipwright�s tool boxes, etched glass, pressed glass,
silver and pewter objects, and other interesting items.
Local Artisans � We are pleased to feature
the handicrafts of several local artists. Ben Cabot
creates wonderful granite posts topped with birds of prey.
Ours is prominently displayed by our store entrance, and is
offered for sale. Emmet Carroll brings his
own hand carved birds and decoys of all types. Linda
Naugle hand dyes silk, velvet, and schiffon scarves
� each one its own unique color. Allison Reed
makes fantastic earrings, bracelets, and necklaces with an
imaginative collection of silver, semi precious jewels, and
polished abalone shell. We also offer works of art (original
and giclee prints), by R.G. Spence,frequent
visitor to our Island Peggy Fox, and Edgartown
residents Joann Mettler, and Ticket
May.
Odds-n-ends � Our store has a wide assortment
of eclectic smaller items such as carved meerschaum boxes
and letter openers, wooden boxes inlaid with exotic woods
and mother of pearl, canned Turkish appetizers, stuffed Turkish
olives, olive oil, Turkish jams and preserves, assorted Turkish
teas and coffee, Turkish delight (of course), sets of slim
waisted Turkish tea glasses, Turkish glass beads of assorted
sizes (including blue beads which are supposed to protect
one from the �Evil Eye�), summer and winter hats, accent pillows,
antique Turkish copper, beach totes and pareo wraps, table
cloths, book marks, and authentic shish skewers.
When we first conceived of Fielder & Fielder Imports
we decided to make it a store for regular people -- whether
they be visitors or year round residents. Our overhead is
at a comfortable level and as a consequence we are able to
maintain very reasonable prices for high quality products.
We are open 10:00-5:00 Monday through Sunday June through
September, and Friday through Sunday, October through December.
